Zurich, Switzerland

Harry visited Zurich, the largest city of Switzerland.
Zurich is similar to Basel in many ways: Gothic style churches with tall pointy roofs, old stone bridges over the river, flocks of seagulls in the sky, trams busily running in the old city and so on. The only big difference is ... |

Zurich is facing a beautiful lake.
The name of the lake is "Zurich" too. |

The temperature of the day was -1C°.
Seagulls and swans were floating still on the lake and they looked freezing. Swans were tamed and they came closer to beg for food. Harry was staring at the swans seriously. He must have been a little afraid of swans as they were much bigger than himself (or their long neck looked like a snake). |

From the Lake Zurich, Harry and his master decided to walk
along the River Limmat to the old city. |

This is Great Minster (Grossmünster) which is located
on the East side of the River Limmat. The construction of the building started around 820. And it was declared by Charles the Great (Charlemagne) Imperial Church. In the basement is the original statue of Charles the Great. |

This is Our Lady's Minster (Fraumünster) which is located
on the opposite side of the River Limmat. The church was built by Louis the German for his daughter Hildegard in 853. |

Our Lady's Minster is famous for Marc Chagall stained glass.
Blue, green and yellow stained glass choir windows are on the East (facing the Limmat), the red one is on the North and another blue one is on the South. The time was 3:30 in the afternoon. The Sun was to set in two hours. The stained glass windows on the East and the South were absolutely beautiful. But the lower half of the North window was already dark. The stained glass can be seen the best in the early morning. |

In the largest window in the middle is Jesus Christ.
His face looks calm and peaceful although he must be suffering enormously on the cross. Marc Chagall's stained glass does not have as many colours as ordinary medieval stained glass. But by changing the gradation of the single colour, Chagall successfully expressed the beauty he imagined in his mind. |

Downtown Zurich was crowded with many people who had big
shopping bags in their hand. Most shops were having a huge After-Christmas Sale. Harry had to dodge baby strollers, children on kickboards, groups of old ladies busily talking on the street. It was as if he was in a kind of a video game. Harry was exhausted by the time he got home at night. |
