Atami, Japan
24 May - 30 June, 2006

Harry visited Japan again for the second time this year. Why?
Because his family decided to stop over in Tokyo on the way to Basel from New York.
This time, they had a chance to visit Atami, a famous Onsen (hot-springs) resort near Tokyo.

Harry visited Atami in Shizuoka Prefecture
in the middle of Tsuyu (rainy season).
Fortunately, it did not rain at all during his stay.
But it was cloudy like this every day.
Where has the sun gone?
Harry did not have a chance to know how the Onsen was like
until Harry's master found a mini Onsen in the Atami Station.
The mini Onsen is not for dogs. It is for human feet.
It was very funny to see people taking off their shoes and
putting their feet in the Onsen in the middle of the station!
The water from the mini Onsen was flowing to the pond next to it.
Harry's master asked the Station staff if Harry can put his feet in the pond.
They kindly answered "Yes".
Harry looked very relaxed in the sea-water hot spring.
Then Harry went to the Atami Beach.
He saw the Pacific Ocean in February too.
But it was too cold to play in the beach last time.
This time, he enjoyed chasing after his ball,
digging the sand and swimming in the ocean.
Harry had a wonderful time there.
There is Kinomiya Shrine near the Atami Station.
The Shrine is famous for its 2000 years old camphor tree.
At the entrance, there was a statue of Komainu (guardian dog).
But it did not look like a dog at all.
It looked more like a lion.
This is the 2000 year old camphor tree.
It was really a huge tree.
The information said:
About 130 years ago, poople decided to cut off this tree.
When the woodcutter approached the tree with a big axe in his hand,
suddenly an old man in a white costume appeared with a flash of light.
The old man did not say anything, but just stood in front of the tree.
Then the axe was broken into two pieces as the old man disappeared.
Harry also visited Atami Plum Garden.
There was no one else in the Garden
as the plum's flower season ended in February.
Very quiet time was running throughout the Garden.
There was no plum blossom, but there were lots of hydrangeas this time.
Harry enjoyed the quietness and smell of humid air.
After all, the rainy season in Japan was not bad at all.
