Garda and Como, Italy
26 July - 1 August, 2007

Harry and his family left Basel at about 8AM.
They were planning to cross the border by noon.
However the border was closed shortly before their arrival.
A traffic accident caused fire in the tunnel near the border.
After waiting for about two hours,
they crossed the border and arrrived in Como, Italy.
It was a very hot day.
Harry could walk only on the lawn in the park.
The photo shows Como's Duomo.
Como is the nearest lake resort from Milan.
Naturally there are many mode shops in the city centre.
Dogs are allowed in most boutiques.
Yet Como is not an ideal holiday desitination for dogs.
There are too many people and not enough beautiful nature.
Harry stayed in Como only for a night.
Then he left for Agility European Open 2007 in Leno.
After the European Open, Harry headed to Lake Garda.
Lake Garda is the place for Doggie Holiday!
The colour of the lake is almost like that of a coral reef.
The water is clean and lots of small fish were swimming there.
And the most important of all, it does not look so crowded
despite of the high season.
It is probably because most people are staying
in the private beaches or in the hotels by the poolside.
Harry and his family stayed in Sirmione,
an old Roman town in the southern edge of Lake Garda.
Sirmione has been a popular Roman resort for over 2000 years.
There are many Roman ruins and buildings.
This is a castle called "Grotte di Catullo".
It was constructed in the 13th century.
The front gate of the wall is the entrance to the old village.
There were narrow streets inside the wall.
Many small souvenier shops, restaurants and cafes
were along the streets.
Garda is famous for olive oil and wine.
Naturally there were excellent olive oil and wine shops.
The beach in Sirmione is covered with white sands and pebbles.
The sunshine is rather too intense during the day,
so people need a parasol on the beach.
There are olive trees along the streets and in the parks.
The hedges are often made of laurel trees.
No wonder olives and bay leaves are always used
in Italian cooking!
Harry and his family were very happy with Sirmione.
But they were told that St. Vigilio has the most marvellous view.
So they went there.
St. Vigilio is also a small town with many Roman ruins.
The narrow stone paveway which leads which the lake
was fun to walk along.
Southern Europe is often said to be not as dog-friendly
as Northern Europe. But Garda must be an exception.
Harry was allowed to accompany his master in the restaurant,
on the hotel's private beach and even at the pool-side.
Harry enjoyed the beach holiday in Italy very much.
