The Black Forest is a huge forest in Germany.
But in fact, it is not very far from Harry's house in Switzerland.
Harry and his family departed Switzerland at about 10 in the morning,
they soon passed Feldberg, the highest point of the Black Forest,
stopped at the Titisee for lunch,
then arrived in the town of Schönwald in the early afternoon.
In the first half of the holiday, Harry stayed in Schönwald.
Schönwald is situated at an altitude of over 1000 metres.
So it was cool and refreshing, even during the day.
A perfect summer hideaway for a dog, who does not like summer heat.
Schönwald is a well-known German health resort (Kur-Ort).
Most trees there are pines.
And the foot of those trees are covered with blueberry bushes!
Harry's master was afraid that it would have been a little too late
for the blueberry season.
But that was really not so...
There were blueberries everywhere!
Harry's master picked and ate blueberries,
until her tongue and fingers were completely dyed purple.
Of course, she did not forget to give some blueberries to Harry.
Actually, Harry got so many blueberries that
his poop turned dark blue during the stay there.
There is a natural spring water in Schönwald,
which is used to treat high blood pressure and certain infections.
In the forest, there was a shallow footbath of the spring water.
Dogs were not allowed to go in the pool,
but they could still play in the stream from the spring.
The water must have had some good effects on Harry's health too!
Harry found quite a few different kinds of butterflies and dragonflies
This beautiful blue dragonfly followed Harry for a while.
Berries were not the only attraction in the Black Forest in the summer.
There were also colourful flowers, which were so pleasant to look at.
After three fun days in Schönwald,
Harry and his family drove up even further north to Baiersbronn.
But on the way there, they stopped at the town of Triberg,
to see the famous "Triberg Waterfalls".
The Triberg Waterfalls are a series of short waterfalls
that make up one of the tallest waterfalls in Germany.
There were beautiful hiking courses around the waterfalls.
Very dog friendly.
There was even a drinking spot for dogs!
In Baiersbronn, Harry stayed in Murgtal (Murgvalley).
Because the hotel was at the bottom of a large valley,
Harry had to climb up steep hills to start hiking.
The views of the forest from the hiking courses were marvellous.
It was nice and cool in the forests,
although it was a little hot and humid at the bottom of the valley.
Baiersbronn was just in the middle of the raspberry season.
Raspberries were very sweet.
Harry and his master just could not stop eating raspberries in the forest.
So their hiking took much longer than it was expected, since
they were often stopping at the berry bushes and picking berries.
There were also wild strawberries.
Harry was surprised by the sweetness of the strawberries.
Some of them were as sweet as honey.
On the top of the hill was a large lake, called Huzenbacher See.
It was very quiet there.
A good place to rest or have lunch.
But if you see the photo above very closely,
a silly dog is swimming without permission of his master!
Harry jumped in the lake as he saw a paddling of ducks there...
Harry's master found a cute small frog near the lake.
She wanted to show it to Harry.
But the frog was too small that Harry could not recognise it at all.
On the way back to the hotel,
Harry and his master still found lots of berries.
In the photo, the bushes on the left side are all raspberries,
the ones on the right side are blueberries.
In Switzerland, it is always easy to find dog friendly hotels.
And whether it is a luxurious hotel or a small chalet,
many of the Swiss hotels do not charge for dogs.
But in the Black Forest, it was not so easy to find dog friendly hotels.
Most people with large dogs seemed to be staying in holiday apartments.
Harry's family chose Schönwald and Baiersbronn,
just because there were good dog-friendly hotels in these two towns.
The hotels in which Harry stayed charged 10-15 euros for a dog per night.
But Harry's family was extremely happy to pay the fee,
because the services there were excellent.
