Harry's Handmade Carry Bag
Made of Finnish Fabric

Finnish Fabric

Whenever Harry's master travels to Finland, she purchases some fabric of Finnish design. She usually visits Marimekko, a Finnish textile and clothing design company, to look for something interesting.

Harry visited the shop in a T-shirt made of cloth by Marimekko. This blue-navy-striped cloth used to be pyjamas which were over 10 years old. Harry's master cut out a part of the old pyjamas and made them into a T-shirt for Harry.

The typical Marimekko patterns are bold, colourful and geometric. Most fabrics are made of 100% cotton.

Halfway done...

Harry's master chose a fabric called "UNIKKO", which means "POPPY" in Finnish. The fabrics of the UNIKKO pattern are available in many different colours, in various thickness, and in various materials. Harry's master decided to use the thickest 100% cotton one for Harry's new carry bag. It cost 30 Euro per meter (150cm wide).
Every weekend, Harry's master worked on this project little by little. After a month, it became to look like a real dog carry bag. But it is not finished yet. The edge need to be sewn with a bias-tape. Also quite a few hook-and-loop fasteners and zip fasteners need to be attached.

...and now finished!

After two months of hard work, Harry's new carry bag is finally finished!
The bag in this photo resembles to the one that was only halfway done, but the edge is now fully covered with a bias tape. The finished bag is 30cm high, 40cm long and 18cm wide (12" high, 16" long and 7.5" wide).
The zip fasteners are sewn like this. Harry can enter both from the side and from the top. The top-flap and the side-flap can be connected with hook-and-loop fasteners.
A mattress is placed at the bottom. This can be detached and washed separately.
Harry can turn around and lie down easily inside the bag.
On the back, there is a pocket that is large enough to carry Harry's frisbee.
