Harry's Achievements

USDAA Agility Trial in Chatham, NY (19-20 Nov 2005)

Sunny but cold. Harry ran very reliable at this trial. He Qed in every class except in Pairs. I wished I could switch this weekend for the one in Arizona. Oh well, next year will be our year!

World Cynosports Games in Scottsdale, AZ (9-13 Nov 2005)

Mostly sunny and hot. Harry seemed having a jet lag on the first day. He was very slow, but ran clean in Steeplechase. The second day, he looked much better and placed 7th in Grand Prix Quarterfinals. We were so happy to get beautiful green poloshirts for semifinalists. But at the semifinals, the handler got a little greedy and pushed Harry too much. As a result, Harry went off course. It is always the handler, not the dog, when things go wrong. Yet, we had a wonderful time in Arizona.
  • Steeplechase Semifinals, No placement but clean
  • Grand Prix Quarterfinals, 7th place Qualified
  • Grand Prix Semifinals, Disqualified

The 15th Tompkins Square Dog Run Halloween Parade (30 Oct 2005)

The biggest Dog Halloween Parade in the world. There were about 400 dogs dressed in a fancy costume. Over 200 of them entered in the constume contest and 10 entered in the trick contest. They competed over $5000 in prizes; iPod Nano for the Best In Show, a weekend getaway for two with a dog for the Best Trick and many more for runner-ups! Harry won the Best Trick with his favourite Ring-Around-Rosies trick in a ladybug costume. The prize was $100 gift certificate at Alias Restaurant in East Village. Harry's best friend, Yuki who played dead in a Geisha costume was the first runner-up. Harry's family and friends went to Alias Restaurant three days later. The food was absolutely beautiful; seasonally-inspired cuisines with freshest ingredients. Harry's master had mussels for appetizer, a whole trout for main and peppermint icecream for dessert. Everybody thanked Harry for winning such a lovely prize.

USDAA Agility Trial in Mont Clare, PA (22-23 Oct 2005)

Day 1 Rainy, Day 2 Sunny. At this trial, we experimented to run as fast as possible, still as making sure to stop at contacts. When running extremely fast, precise handling becomes the key to clean run; the handler has to point the next obstacle as precise as possible. In Steeplechase Round 2, there was a tunnel-A-Frame discrimination. We had to pass the tunnel then pull Harry to the A-Frame. But we were running too fast and I pulled Harry too much. So Harry passed even the A-Frame and went to the jump next to it. It happened very quickly. This means Harry was extremely responsive to my handling and body movement. Also from this, I learned that, when changing sides, I should do cross-in-front whenever possible. Harry was very good with contacts even when running fast. He stopped at the two-on-two-off position at both A-Frame and Dogwalk contacts. Oh boy, not again! I forgot the course of Jumpers. I decided to use this trial as an experiment, still losing the Steeplechase Round2 was a bit of shock for me. So I was sulking and sorry for myself even when I was walking the course!!! Harry is ready for Arizona, but the handler need to learn to handle pressures.

USDAA Agility Trial in Elkton, MD (14-16 Oct 2005)

Day 1 Rainy, Day 2 Sunny and Day 3 Cloudy & Windy. We used this trial as a contact practice opportunity. No intention to win, but to get secure contacts. Harry has been a little confused by being too quickly released at contacts for the last four trials. As a result, he is losing speed at A-frame and Dogwalk. This way, he will never misses contacts, but he won't be able to beat Bailey. This time, Harry had to stay on two-on-two-off position until released. The pratice seemed to have worked well.

He was faster than any other jump heights' 1st place dogs in Standard and Jumpers. He also earned the highest score in Snooker, 9 points more than 22" and 26" 1st place dogs. Harry's friend Yuki did extremely well in this trial too. In the pouring rain. she ran happily as usual.

Doggie Musical Chairs was held at this event. There were 12 pairs to start with, but remained only Harry and a big rentriever in the end. The retriever was obedient but Harry was faster. Harry received a cute raincoat and lots of treats. Harry's master also won a beautiful Sherpa Legacy Carrier at Interactive Dog Quiz Wheel. She correctly answered the following questions: 1. What is the breed that comes in Standard, Miniature and Toy size? 2. What is the tallest breed in the world? The answers are Poodle and Irish Wolfhound. If you have also got the answers right, you should try it too next year!

USDAA Agility Trial in East Durham, NY (9-11 Sep 2005)

Sunny and cool. Harry earned Master Standard Title and Master Agility Dog Title, so called "MAD"! Harry was perfect with all the contacts. Now he consistently stops at the bottom of A-Frame and Dogwalk. This, we have been working very hard for the last two months without attending any trials.

USDAA Agility Trial in East Durham, NY (24-26 Jun 2005)

Sunny, hot and humid. Harry finally beat Bailey the Jack Russel in Steeplechase! Harry was 6 seconds faster than Bailey. The angle from a jump to weavepoles was very tight and close. Most dogs including Bailey missed the first pole and took a long time to fix it. But Harry found the weavepole entrance by himself quickly and finished his run without major mistakes. Harry also came in third in Grand Prix. Harry had to run rather slowly in Grand Prix to make sure to touch contacts. As soon as he gets two-on-two-off contact (back paws on contact and front paws on ground) right, he will start beating Bailey in Grand Prix too.
  • Masters Jumpers 2nd Place (24/6)
  • Steeplechase Round1 2nd Place Qualified-3 (25/6)
  • Grand Prix of Dog Agility 3rd Place Qualified-5 (25/6)

USDAA Northeastern Regional Championships in Kennett Square, PA (17-19 Jun 2005)

Cloudy and cool, perfect weather for agility. There were 450 dogs; the biggest trial ever for Harry. Harry missed a few contacts and his master made a few mistakes in handling such as taking her eyes off Harry before completing weavepoles. Still they got qualified both in Grand Prix and Steeplechase. Harry and his master got too nervous and excited in Grand Prix Final Round, and they went off course. Harry's nemesis, the current US Champion Bailey the Jack Russel, won the Grand Prix. Harry came in 4th in Steeplechase Final Round and got cash award! Harry also got his Masters Jumpers Bronz Title in this event.

USDAA Agility Trial in Stowe, VT (11-12 Jun 2005)

Sunny, hot and humid. Harry did extremely well with all contact obstacles, but his master did terrible after leash running for two hours in the morning. She was completely toasted in the sun. She even forgot the course in Steeplechase where everybody thought Harry could win the 1st place. Still Harry came in first place in Grand Prix! After the trial, Harry enjoyed swimming in the river with his pairs partners, Banjo and Bennie.
  • Masters Gamblers 4th Place (11/6)
  • Masters Pairs with Banjo 1st Place Qualified-3 (11/6)
  • Grand Prix of Dog Agility 1st Place Qualified-3 (11/6)

USDAA Agility Trial in Carmel, NY (4-5 Jun 2005)

Sunny with heatwave. Harry easily got tired in the sun and ran rather slowly. He was sprinkled water before his runs, but too much water made his paws slippery. He almost fell from the dogwalk and slided on the table. So this was a very good lesson; too much water never helps! Still Harry was a very good boy and tried his best to keep lying down on the toasted table.
  • Masters Jumpers 2nd Place Qualified-9 (4/6)
  • Masters Gamblers 4th Place (4/6)
  • Steeplechase National Championship Qualifier 3rd Place (4/6)

USDAA Agility Trial in Saratoga Springs, NY (28-30 May 2005)

Sunny with occasional heavy thunder storms. Harry did extremely well until thunder storms. He run clean in all the standard classes. But the judge mistakenly judged that Harry was not quite lying down on the table. The judge said that Harry did not look quite relaxed and his chest was not touching the table. But Harry was really lying down with his both elbows touching the table. That is all he was required to do on the table. The photo shows that Harry and his master are lying down on the table with their both elbows touching the table. They were very upset for not getting qualified. Everybody told them this kind of thing happens once in a while. Still Harry got his Master Snooker title and came in 3rd in Jumpers. The biggest achievement in this trial, however, is that Harry finally overcame the fear of thunders after three days of heavy thunder storms.
  • Masters Jumpers 2nd Place Qualified-8 (28/5)
  • Masters Snooker 3rd Place Qualified-5 (30/5)

USDAA Agility Trial in Millersville, MD (21-22 May 2005)

Sunny. Cool in the morning, but hot in the afternoon. Good news is Harry came in 2nd in the Grand Prix of Dog Agility World Championship Local Qualifier! This means he is going to the World Championship in November this year (the location is to be annonced soon). Bad news is Harry missed quite a few contacts. Only if there were contact obstacles at home or at a nearby training centers in Manhattan, it would be easy to master the contact. Harry really has to find a way to practice the contact without obstacles. He decided to learn the "Target" command this week. With that command, he stops running immediately and stay. Let's see if this works!
  • Grand Prix of Dog Agility 2nd Place Qualified-2 (21/5)
  • Masters Jumpers 2nd Place Qualified-7 (22/5)

USDAA Agility Trial in Hampton Falls, NH (14-15 May 2005)

Weird Weekend. Cloudy with occasional rainstorms. Harry missed a few contacts. He even jumped off from the see-saw to sniff something on the ground. Many dogs missed the first poles, so did he. His master forgot the course. Still he did not forget to get the SuperQ. He was also awarded Spuds Award for Jumping Excellence (Awarded in memory of the 1st USDAA Masters Titled Chihuahua) to the Highest Scoring 12" Dog in Masters Jumpers.
  • Masters Gamblers 2nd Place (14/5)
  • Masters Standard 1st Place (14/5)
  • Masters Snooker 1nd Place Qualified-4 (14/5)
  • Masters Gamblers 1st Place (15/5)

USDAA Agility Trial in Cato, NY (7-8 May 2005)

Sunny and warm, but very windy. Harry came in 4th in Grand Prix of Dog Agility Local Qualifier. This means he can go to the Northeast Regional Championship in PA in June. He also got SuperQ in Snooker. It was almost like typhoon on the second day. Harry was literally blown off from the top of dogwalk in his first run. The gallery screamed and stood up. Harry seemed have shocked for a while, but recovered quickly. He did not want to run much rest of the day, but he still loves agility!
  • Grand Prix of Dog Agility 4th Place Qualified-1 (7/5)
  • Masters Snooker 2nd Place Qualified-3 SuperQ-3 (7/5)
  • Masters Jumpers 4th Place (7/5)

We all thought that Harry would never miss a contact again. So thought Harry himself. He was very excited with a large audience cheering. After a few jumps, he started gallopping like a horse. He was too fast and missed the A-Frame contact, but he still came in first.
  • Advanced Standard 1st Place (19/2)
